This compilation of short stories titled 10th House Profection by Corinna Kloth includes different styles of writing accompanied with a sole drawing per story. Varying chapter to chapter, the author and illustrator Corinna Kloth takes storytimes of her own, ideas that have come to her at all different times in her life, inspiration from dreams, astrology, and more as a foundation for her writings and an expression of herself as a woman living out her 20s in the 2020s. She would love to mark her place almost journalistically through her characters and their own journeys, with hopes of being known for a future novel to encapsulate all her thoughts and experiences with femininity, being queer, and all else between the lines of being a human being on Earth both currently and historically. She undertook this project as a junior in college to attain a physical copy of her writing and drawings in her hands as a temporary book with the hopes it will inspire confidence to undertake novels or even series with hundreds of pages. This is not a new goal for Corinna, as she has always escaped through stories – especially coming-of-age ones – whilst taking in all types of writing styles, daydreaming of when her own stories will be done cooking deep inside her.
Corinna Kloth, a 21 year old student at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, moved out of her small town home of New Berlin, Wisconsin at 18 years old. She has always been interested in drawing, leading into painting, always with seemingly impossible dreams of becoming a filmmaker, especially without a camera. At SAIC Kloth has been able to utilize the vast technology the school has to offer to begin to create her own handmade video work. She has been able to get jobs on Indie Film sets as well as Student Productions. She has also participated in a group show for No Nation featuring their collective 16mm short film, Koi’s Tree, as well as all the crew’s personal 16mm music video screenings, Corinna’s being titled, Hope. She works with themes of queerness, femininity and gender, sex, drugs, astrology, and spirituality including witchcraft and the occult.
